A low of 13.5c produced a rather disappointing catch this morning of just 14 moths of 6 species. Only record of interest was the first Garden Carpet of the year. Below is my 1st Grizzled Skipper for 11 years seen at Dunge yesterday. It could have been a better specimen!

In addition to Spotted Flycatcher, Black Redstart and 2 Peregrines there were 3 Wall Browns, a Dingy Skipper and my 1st Painted Lady of the year. There are apparently 11,500 early Spider Orchid plants there too. Back home there was the 1st Holly Blue of the year in the garden.

Well milder conditions seemed to have arrived with a low of 13.5c last night but it's still very wet. Yesterday I had an Early Grey & the 1st Bee Moth of the year. This morning had some soggy egg boxes to deal with and 1 Bee Moth, 1 Shuttle-shaped Dart & a Common Quaker-the latest I've had.

I've not reported much recently as there's not been much to report. I’ve just spent a week in Cornwall. I took the trap as the location where we stayed was mature parkland. I didn’t get anything in the trap all week. Last night was another wet one with 3 moths this morning: Pale Mottled Willow, LBAM, & E. sulphurella. Here's a picture of a Little Grebe taken last week with a prey item, but which Newt is it? (Click on picture to enlarge).
